Description The Course shall help participants achieve the following objectives:
(a) Understanding the concepts and structure of academic English and its differences between the language of school and everyday language;
(b) Developing strategies and pedagogy in connection with using English as the MOI for enhancing classroom communication as well as effective learning and teaching of the non-language subjects;
(c) Developing awareness of the language features that are specific to their own subjects and the language requirements in assessing students’ learning; and
(d) Understanding, acquiring and deploying teaching strategies and classroom management techniques for learning and teaching the non-language subjects effectively in EMI, including but not limited to: (i) presenting and explaining subject content clearly and systematically; (ii) eliciting students’ responses through questioning; (iii) giving students opportunities to demonstrate their learning in English; (iv) helping students with different learning abilities in developing subject-specific English proficiency; and (v) incorporating language instructions to help students to master subject-specific knowledge.
