Master of Social Sciences in Psychology (Schools and Community Settings) (Part-time)
Course ID (Click link to view details at source / apply)
The Master of Social Sciences in Psychology (Schools and Community Settings) Programme has two overarching aims. First, it aims to provide those working with children and young people in education and related community settings with a foundation in relevant psychological principles. By doing so, it aims to enhance the competence of education and related professionals in areas such as classroom administrative practices, through a deeper understanding of student performance and behaviour, which are affected by a range of psychological dimensions including social relationships, personality features, attitudes, beliefs, cognitive skills and structures, and biogenetic factors. With a deeper understanding of psychological theories and the empirical basis for them, teachers and other education-related professionals will be able to modify their own instructional practice and strategies to improve life chances and results for students.
Second, in the process of achieving the above, the programme will provide graduates with a qualification that allows them to pursue further studies in psychology and related fields, thus improving the life chances of teachers and the like. Graduates of the programme are eligible to apply for Graduate Membership of the Hong Kong Psychological Society and the British Psychological Society (applications are made on an individual basis). Graduates may consider pursuing professional and advanced training in clinical psychology, educational psychology, counselling psychology, industrial / organisational psychology, forensic psychology, and related fields in Hong Kong and worldwide.
