In this cluster meeting, English teachers who work at ID schools will:
experience sharing from schools who are using and adapting Space Town and Keys2 primary literacy programme (PLP) resources for their students with special educational needs (SEN);
experience sharing from a school using the DTS approach to develop a unit for Primary 6 students with intellectual disability (ID);
reflect on and discuss current practices, e.g. baseline testing, collaboration, English days, resources shared, including PLP-R/W learning and teaching materials, curriculum mapping, and advisory support offered to ID schools; and
discuss the way forward to support Key Stage 2 teachers working at ID schools.
Participants will also have the opportunity to exchange views and discuss their own classroom practice.

1. To enhance teachers’ understanding of the special educational needs (SEN) of students, e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorders, Specific Learning Difficulties in Reading and Writing (Dyslexia) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder;
2. To explore the strategies for supporting students with SEN to learn more effectively through the use of e-resources and integrating new literacies in the mainstream English Language classroom at the junior secondary level;
3. To provide suggestions on designing learning, teaching and assessment activities to support the development of the language skills of students with SEN ; and
4. To share strategies and experiences on catering for the needs of SEN students through integrating new literacies in the junior secondary English classroom

This online workshop provides opportunities for teachers to gain an understanding of:inclusive education in Hong Kong settings; a class profile as a document and a tool to inform learning and teaching; the 3-tier Response to Intervention (RTI) framework to cater for learner diversity and how to use it when providing English Language learning experiences; possible types of SEN in mainstream classrooms; and
practical strategies to support the learning and teaching of students with SEN.

This online workshop is designed for English Language teachers who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in teaching students with SEN in the mainstream classroom. This workshop can be done individually or by in groups.
